JEFFERSON CITY — State Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis, today issued the following statement relating to the events of Charlottesville, Virginia:

“"I am heartbroken for the loss of life in Charlottesville with the deaths of Heather Heyer, and officers Lieutenant H. Jay Cullen and Pilot Berke M.M. Bates," Sen. Nasheed said.

"Our country is stronger, better and more prosperous when we embrace our diversity, but the racism and violence on display from white nationalists and their sympathizers is frankly un-American,” stated Sen. Nasheed.

“The politicians who stoke the flames of anger within these domestic terrorists should be ashamed. Going forward, we must bring peace and unity to the streets of our nation together, as Americans," Sen. Nasheed said.
